Mick Junco is a painter, illustrator and animator based in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA in painting and drawing from Pratt Institute, where he began experimenting with his painted works in digital, analog and motion form. Junco approaches his practice by means of unconscious mathematics, thinking of each element of his painting as part of a larger, variable equation. These visual equations combine disparate elements to form an abstracted composition, representing a fractured frame of mind. In his work, Junco seeks to represent the world not as a solitary place, but rather an expansive space of interconnected quirks that form the elements that shape the whole. The spaces pictured are often a playful and dramatic merging of still life, landscape and portraiture. Through the destruction of traditional imagery and composition, a celebration of otherness emerges. This otherness comes forth to challenge our reality situated within our world view.
